Cloud Tiering and Object Storage for Backup Balancing Cost and Speed

The cloud has become a critical part of most backup, disaster recovery and long-term data retention strategies. In fact, in 2022, industry analysts found more than 50% of the IT organizations surveyed claimed they are using the cloud for backup. 

The cloud has become ubiquitous, and its accessibility and cost structure are flexible. Cloud tiering is the ability to automatically move on-premises backup data that may never change or may rarely be accessed to low-cost cloud storage. Data stored in the cloud is transparent to the backup system during recovery, helps lower backup storage costs and enables longer term retention of the backup data.
