The HSE’s strategy to reduce work-related ill health

2018 will see the HSE increase their focus on the measures that companies have in place to prevent their staff from falling ill. In practical terms, this will see businesses placed under increased scrutiny and asked to demonstrate the steps that they have taken to limit the impact of hazardous substances on their people. Failure to demonstrate appropriate measures will see companies run the risk of HSE fines which have increased five-fold over the last four years, with nearly £70 million in penalties being issued in 2016/17.
